Bathroom Light Fixtures Explained

In its simplest form light fixture for a bathroom comprises of a simple light bulb holder with pull down chain for its operation. Such fixtures are most convenient as the burnt out bulb can easily be replaced without having to unscrew the glass enclosures. The more stylish bathrooms may have a row of same-sized bulbs fixed into the bathroom light fixture. The fixtures are nothing except copper or brass plates needed to shield the electrical wires that feed the bulb with electricity.

There are many traditional and modern designs of fixtures available for people who like to cover the lighting bulbs in the bathroom. The decorative variety includes the ones quite similar to the tops of old style of oil lamps in fluted glass or in simple glazed glass. The cover of the light bulb is fixed into a brass or copper plate that provides cover to the electrical wires, and is fixed by means of screws to securely hold the glass cover thru holes provided in the cover itself, the holes matching the holes already drilled in the metallic plate. The arrangement for screwing the light bulb is provided in the middle of the glass cover.

One style of adding grace to the bathroom is by installing small chandeliers on either side of a large bathroom mirror. Such kind of light fixtures used to frame bathroom mirror are very costly to replace, as often they need to be sent back to the factory for any replacement of glass, should the need ever arise.

The keenness of having light fixtures on both the sides of bathroom mirrors is more than just having better looks or design, but also for practical utility.

It’s a very useful and popular design to cover the medicine cabinet in the bathroom with a mirror that is always used for carrying day to day activities like brushing of teeth, washing of face or combing of hair and even drying the same with a blower. It helps to have more of light in that area. Fixture for a bathroom light could be in the form of just a bulb screwed in to a socket, or a more rounded dramatic looking bulb in its socket or it could have a heat resistant glass cover for enclosing the light bulb. Irrespective of appearance, it remains functional.

The function is to enhance our experience in the bathroom, be it by way of brilliant lighting in the zone where the mirror is installed to add convenience to mirror related activities, or to offer subdued light for a bit of extra pleasure while bathing or having a shower. But, keep in mind to dry your hands before changing any bulb and do switch off the device while cleaning the glass or metal cover attached to it.
